IDS chosen to keep Il Vagabondo luxury yacht secure

The Il Vagabondo – wanderer of no fixed abode is a 65 m custom motor yacht, which offers accommodation for up to 16 guests across 2 suites. She is also capable of carrying 19 crew to provide a relaxed luxury sailing experience. The Il Vagabondo spends the majority of the year moored in the south of France, however during the summer months, the owner travels around Europe between France and the Italian Riviera.

First built in 1987, the Il Vagabondo recently underwent a refit in Istanbul, with work carried out on the external areas, including adding a new sun deck and extending the pool.

Andy Turner, one of three engineers assigned to the Il Vagabondo states, “The refurbishment was the ideal time to readdress the yacht’s security systems. The current solution was old and rapidly going out of date so we decided it was time for a revamp. Andy had been impressed working with GeoVision products before, so naturally decided to go with the same brand.

Main objectives

Andy Turner made initial contact with the team and they discussed the main objectives for the boat. The IDS technical team designed a security scheme which included general CCTV with motion detection as the old system was struggling to work well with changes in light levels.

Andy explains, “Our main requirement was for up-to-date general CCTV surveillance and also access control for staff. What IDS supplied was seriously sophisticated kit, which we are not fully utilising all the functions of, as they are not needed as yet, but we have all the software and it looks to be very scalable, which will be great if we ever need to extend the scope in the future as our locations change.
